During your initial visit to our clinic you should set aside approximately 30 minutes for your assessment by the clinic director.  Future treatment visits may require more or less time, depending on the complexity of your problem.

We recommend that you arrive about 15 minutes before your scheduled assessment time in order to fill out an intake form.  You may also require the help of our clinic manager regarding your insurance coverage or forms required by your employer.  Please note you can download the patient intake form from the home page to save time. It is a good idea to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for your visit. You may be asked to change into a patient gown if necessary. Please bring any imaging reports you may have such as X-ray and MRI to aid in your examination. Upon examination, an in-depth history will be taken which may include the following:

• personal and family medical history.
• major illnesses you have experienced.
• surgeries or operations you have had.
• medications you are taking.
• a description of your present condition.
• the steps you have taken to manage your condition.
• your diet and exercise.
• your sleeping habits, daily activities, work routine, stress level, and home life.

A physical examination will follow which may include:
• postural exam to check your alignment.
• gait exam to identify mechanical abnormalities when you are moving.
• palpation exam to determine the quality of the soft tissue and joints.
• range of motion tests to assess how well your body moves in the affected area.
• orthopaedic evaluation to assess the function of the area in question.
• neurological testing including your reflexes, strength and sensations.
• muscle strength/functional testing.

After the examination is complete, the clinic director will give you a report of findings. This will include your diagnosis and treatment plan. The clinic director will discuss the most suitable course of treatment types and options with you. This may involve co-treatment with other health professionals. If a diagnosis is made which may be more appropriately treated by another health care professional, a referral will be arranged. Typically, treatment is not administered on the initial visit. However, if you are in acute pain, you may request treatment on the first visit. Please notify the clinic manager to allow appropriate scheduling time.
When you first arrive at our clinic, you will be required to fill out a patient intake form.  Please arrive about 15 minutes early to allow time to complete this form.  You may download this ahead of time from our home page.

Your therapist will then conduct an interview with you involving your medical history and assessment testing.   The therapist will explain exactly how the treatment is going to progress. At this time, they will also answer any questions that you may have with regards to your visit to our clinic or massage therapy in general. At the end of this interview, the RMT will leave the treatment room to allow you to disrobe and get on the massage table in private. It should be noted that you will only be asked to remove clothing around the area to be treated. Should you be uncomfortable with this, please inform the therapist and an alternative treatment method can be arranged.

Having assessed your condition, the RMT will start to treat you accordingly. On some occasions, the RMT may recommend additional assessment and treatment by another health professional to help co-manage the condition.
